The Rudderport system takes the place of the conventional
metallic rudder tube and skin fittings. It is constructed
from a hi-tech woven unidirectional fabric which is pre-impregnated
with a thermo setting epoxy resin, then laminated and
cured under pressure using the latest techniques to
ensure optimum density and tolerances. Pressed into the
top of the tube is a non-metallic flanged Rudderport and
a bearing at the bottom. The bearing material used allows
for minimal clearances and gives exceptional wear
qualities. Henleys have been manufacturing Rudderports for over ten years on commercial and pleasure
craft without having the pleasure of replacing one unit
due to wear! One of New Zealand's top multi-hull designers "Ron
Given" informed us recently that a seal needed replacing after
45,000 sea miles!!!
The Rudderport is fitted
with o-rings on the outside and the inside so both the
tube and the rudder stock are sealed against outside
elements. It is also fitted with a remote greaser to
allow easy periodic greasing with SLAP grease. The
installation of the Easiflow Rudderport system is
extremely simple and is Marine Department approved to be
installed above or below the LWL.
-
For timber and glass vessels, line bore
to give a clearance on the tube and epoxy into place.
-
For steel and aluminium vessels, a tube
is welded into place giving a clearance of approximately 4mm
around the diameter of the rudder port tube. Float the tube
within the welded tube, for correct alignment, then pour an
easichok, our brand of fitting resin, to set in place.
Full fitting instruction supplied. The
rudderport system has been installed in Lloyd's, USL and
M&I surveyed vessels and caters for rudder stock from
3/4" to 4" in diameter.
